Music Theory for the Practical Musician I

Course Description: Practical music theory is a course designed to teach the novice and experienced musician important core concepts that include: major/minor scales, circle of fifths, circle of fourths, spelling of triads and their qualities (by scale degrees and tertial makeup), spelling chord extensions (7th, 9th, 13th), reading and writing common practice pop chords, transposing, the diatonic number system (Nashville system), and reading key signatures. The student will be able to apply these concepts they learn to their modern music performance at the end of the course.

Prerequisite: Practical Theory I OR a prior mastery of major scales, chord spellings, and diatonic progressions in both major and minor keys

Course Description: This course is a follow up to "Music Theory for the Practical Musician I" and focuses on the application of practical music theory concepts. Come learn chord voicing, on-the-fly transposition, proper lead sheet/chord chart arranging technique, notation skills, use of modes, secondary dominants, tritone substitutions, and modulation/transition techniques.

Course Description: This course is a class geared toward helping vocalists learn to read and understand written music. Utilizing proven pedagogy, this course equips students with the fundamental knowledge needed to succeed in a choir and vocal ensemble setting, all in a friendly and safe learning environment.

Course Description: Using the Guitar Method Vol. 1 by Harold Greene, students will navigate through 9 lessons that will help them learn the very basics of guitar chords and music reading. No prior experience is needed and this class is open for all ages! All the student needs is a guitar, pick, and the desire to have fun learning guitar in a safe, encouraging environment. ** This class is not designed for someone with proficient playing and reading experience. However, if one plays guitar proficiently but lacks the ability to read music, this course would be helpful to that student by teaching them how to read music.**

Course Description: This is a follow up to "Beginning Guitar I" and will take the students to the next level in bar chords, basic improvisation, reading music, learning the notes up the neck, and basic guitar repertoire. Learn lots of tunes and enjoy a safe and encouraging environment, while learning skills that will lead you to successful ensemble playing and vocal accompaniment.

Start Date: Summer Semester (June 2-July 27)
Cost: Summer Semester = $160 for eight 30 min lessons + $25 registration fee (only applies to new students or annually each fall) **Ask about discounted rate for multiple students per family.**
Payment Plan: Total installment due within first 2 weeks of instruction, Proration is offered for students who start later than the first week of the semester.

Instruments Offered: Piano, Guitar, Bass, Drums, Vocals

Course Description: Private, one-on-one instruction on any of the above listed instruments is offered through this course. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Students learn technical skills of proficiency on their respected instrument with the opportunity to perform at a recital (Fall and Spring Semesters Only) and other opportunities to participate in concerts and jam sessions sponsored by GHSoA. Students can learn at their own pace with special one-on-one instruction tailored specifically to meet each student where they are at in their playing. Good posture, playing technique, music theory training, and improvisation skills are all areas of focus in the private instruction curriculum.
